Dah Bee Deh House
250 m2 beach house, Thailand
Project
Team: Koen Klinkers, Will Galloway, Max Kim
In this setting – a beach front property skirted by a forest – the chief goal is to make the building as invisible as possible. In this case that goal is pursued with two strategies. On the ground floor the design relies on an open plan, made as clean as possible by using three sets of stairs as the sole structure. On the upper floor the room functions (master bedroom and three guest rooms set around a communal deck) do not favour such openness, and so the floor is instead sheathed with polished stainless steel panels. These reflect the site and reduce the visual impact of the home.
The ground floor is designed to be entirely open or closed, with various spaces sub-divided in different and interesting ways using sliding shutters and wooden doors.
