the office view

everyone knows on some level that building things takes time.

sometimes we forget that designing things takes time too. lots of time in fact. which is to say, while we are busy with developing designs for the next few months there will be nothing significant under construction to document…

since we started this blog to show construction process for our work here in tokyo, we have been sort of benignly neglecting this blog while we decide what to do with it when actual building is not going on.

after a bit of thinking we finally decided to try two things.

1. blogument other people’s buildings in tokyo

2. write about the city.

as it happens we are both phd students at university of tokyo, where we have been busy studying urban planning and theory so this latter possibility is actually kind of exciting. most of all because we have begun to notice that actually build things in the city is giving us a different perspective than the one we had when we were just plain old urban theoristes looking at the city from above…

this fresh perspective has got us thinking…actually it has gotten us thinking quite a lot, and we want to share a bit about what has been turning up in our little grey cells.
so we are going to try using this blog as a sort of pinup board for our theories and observations on the city as well as the process of buiding here. should be interesting to see how it turns out. in the meantime, please enjoy the view from our office above. the tower in the background is roppongi hills.
