A renovation project for a large three story flat that was split into two phases. The first phase was completed in 2006 and focused on creating a new kitchen and dining room as well as converting an unused kitchen on the third floor into a bathroom for the master bedroom. We were subsequently asked in 2008 to transform a group of Japese-style rooms on the ground floor into a single large living area.

Mostly this project focused on modernising the spaces. In the second phase of construction we also explored the use of natural light within the fixed confines of the built structure. Specifically this meant using large sliding doors finished in Japanese paper - each door spans the height from floor to ceiling and is made of a randomised pattern of openings that are visible only when lit from behind.
